travel time!

We are officially in the midst of summer vacation. All the travel we've been doing proves it. We've been to Orlando, Memphis, Arkansas and will be heading to Kentucky next week. Whew... I'm tired. And my poor van is tired. But, it's what we have to do since we've moved so far away from everyone. Well, we don't really have to. We want to. It's been nice to visit with all sides of our family. The kids have done remarkably well during the long trips. I won't lie, the DVD player helps a little lot.

Every time we leave, I feel a little sad. I so wish we could live near all of our family. I grew up, for the most part, near my extended family. I hate that my kids won't have that. But, as my Dad said, you've got to go where the paycheck is. I do feel blessed that I'm not having to work and can travel through the summer with the kids, letting them be spoiled by all their grandparents and aunts and uncles.

Below are some recent shots of my little Shep. We had to cut his mop top of hair. It was sad, but he needed it. I think it makes him look older. He is such a little boy. He is talking SO much now. He'll repeat anything you say and is learning to use his words better when he needs something or is upset.

He's also a little artist. Especially when it comes to coloring on himself. He'll be closely monitored the next time markers are used. :)
This was just precious. And you don't know how excited I was that he did this. Nap times have become quite a struggle lately.

He went to town (ha!) on this horsey. We may be looking for one of these at some yard sales soon. Except that it did cause a little bit of a problem trying to take turns with his sister. He wasn't a fan of that.

So all in all, it's been a great summer so far. Sophie has a friend visiting this week and next week we'll be on the road again.

We are busy. And I wouldn't want it any other way.
(although a nap in the midst of all the busy would be nice)
